1 (I Stand By What I Said Whatever It Was)  Mon, Jan 17, 2011 1:58:22pm
I'd love to call this satire, especially because of his commentary about Deliverance, but I honestly believe the author is serious.

Satire is Very Serious – "conservatives" just happen to be very bad at it, because it's usually more inadvertent self-satire than anything else, exposing what was supposed to be entertaining and enlightening as naught but bitter political resentments – which makes the whole thing comical, but unintentionally so.

My take on these:

“All American Soldiers are psychos.” – Platoon (1986)

Horse manure. I didn't like the movie for various reasons, but not all the soldier characters are psychos, criminals, degenerates, etc. Most of them aren't in fact.

2. “All misfits, losers, and malcontents are inherently heroic.” – Animal House (1979)

Animal House is political? Whoduthunkit? Not only does this lame grasper see it in political terms, he sees its message (if any) as specifically liberal.

3. “Those darn conservatives killed JFK.” – JFK (1991)

I would agree that this movie sucked, but this kind of conspiracism is really getting to be the right's modus operandi these days. Though lefty conspiraloons still exist, they are increasingly marginalized, ignored, and (most importantly) unprofitable.

“Every American who is not an affluent urban elitist is a drooling degenerate.” – Deliverance (1972)

WTF? After accusing Hollyweird of glorifying non-elitists in Animal House, he now denounces them for vilifying the non-elite in Deliverance. Of course, it's quite a stretch to claim that inbred Georgia mountain men are meant to represent everyone outside the lib power centers, but we're seeing a lot of stretch here at every turn.

5. “Nuclear Power is eeeeevvvvvviiiiiiilllllll” – The China Syndrome (1979)

Again, how is this specifically a liberal idea? Anti-nuclear luddites have pitched their message to both ends of the spectrum and each has been more susceptible than the other at one time or another. With the right's wholehearted embrace of anti-science, it would seem likely that they, not the left, will hold up the greasy hydrocarbon fueled torch of anti-nuke hysteria in the future.

“Nuclear weapons are awful.” – Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)

I thought it was "nuclear weapons are funny." In any case, is this alleged message wrong? Again, though, is it exclusively and characteristically liberal?

7. “Greed is not good.” – Wall Street (1987)

No, dipweed, greed is not good. Remember, enlightened and humane business people win out in the end and still make a tidy profit, while the cheats and sleazeballs go to jail.

8. “True courage means helping out the Nazis.” – The English Patient (1996)

I didn't see the film but is helping Nazis really a liberal idea? How did the author get there? Is a portrayal an automatic endorsement?

9. “The CIA is both all-powerful and shockingly inept all at once.” – The Bourne Films (2002-2006)

I hate to be repetitive, but how is this specifically liberal? Let's ask some garden variety Paulians and Alex Jones fans what they think of the CIA. They might be afraid to tell us, for fear of being whisked away in a black chopper that very night.

10. “The central tenet of Christianity is preventing teenagers from dancing.”

This is really too stupid for a response but I have to try. The film includes some Christian bluenoses who interfere with teen dancing. Fine, but how is that supposed to be a generalization about the Christian community? Such people do exist, admitting so is not a broad brush. Sometimes a story is just a story.

No, Animal House is Republican. They are fighting the elite ivory tower establishment of academia!

The CIA is both all-powerful and shockingly inept all at once, that's the truth.

Hahahahaha, sorry I'm so damned amused right now. The fact that the numnut who wrote this tried to get a political and even liberal message out of Animal House is just hilarious. And who wouldn't want to be an Omega? I'd rather drink with Bluto and the guys from Delta over the guys at Omega any night.

LOL I'm just amazed that "It's a Wonderful Life" didn't make the cut. Evil, powerful, capitalist tries to squash the every-day, hardworking peons. Maybe Christmas movies are too sacred to mock.
